The City of West Lafayette offers a variety of trails and footpaths and encourage you to enjoy the outdoors through our growing trail system. The combined distance of trails and footpaths is 21.24 miles.  Click below under 'Related Pages' to print a copy of the Trail Map.

CATTAIL TRAIL (4.33 miles)
The Cattail Trail and Northwest Greenway Trail are designated as National Recreation Trails. As part of the National Trails System, they are central features in the network of parks and open space. They provide healthy recreational experiences and encounters with the natural world.

Natural Green Space Management:The Northwest Greenway Trail is a network of 7.78 miles of 10 feet wide, asphalt trail.  Over the next two years, management of th 0.87 mile section of trail in Trailhead Park and from Kalberer Road to Morehouse Road will involve the removal of invasive plants, the planting of a native prairie seed mixture and 150 native wetland plants, and the installation of more than six dozen trees.  This section will be manged to provide a natural vegetation trail corridor adjacent to the next phase of the Purdue Research Park.
 
TROLLEY LINE TRAIL
(Happy Hollow Park restroom area to Indian Trail entrance)  ~.92 mile

~ 2.17 miles (Morton Center to Happy Hollow School)
Start at Morton Center or the West Lafayette Public Library, then go:
  • North on North Chauncey
  • East on North Street one block
  • North on Salisbury three blocks  
  • West on Lutz to Vine
  • North on Vine four blocks to Centennial Neighborhood Park, a nice place to rest after a 3/4 mile stroll. 
  • West on Lawn to Grant 
  • North on Grant to Meridian and the West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School track

After walking around the 1/4-mile track, proceed:

  • North on Grant to Leslie
  • East on Leslie, cross Salisbury to Kingston
  • North and east around Happy Hollow School, past the pool, and around the 1/4-mile, soft-surface, loop track east of the school 
  • Salisbury Street to Soldiers Home Road ~ .84 mile
Sidewalk markers and four map/information signs note the route.

  • North River Road to Tapawingo Park Wabash Heritage Trail Overlook ~ .72 mile
  • Tapawingo Park Wabash Heritage Trail Overlook to South River Road (US 231) ~ .81 mile
  • Tapawingo Park Margerum Fountain, along Tapawingo Drive, South River Road (US 231) ~ .33 mile
CELERY BOG FOOTPATH 1.50 miles
(including all connections to nature center, parking areas and viewing deck)

HAPPY HOLLOW PARK FOOTPATHS: 1.00 mile

  • Garden Trail: Playground to Children's Garden to east parking lot ~ .22 mile
  • Hollowood Trail: Hollowood to Trolley Line Trail ~ .09 mile
  • Rose Street Trail: Rose Street to Garden Trail ~ .24 mile
  • Salisbury Ravine Trail: Salisbury Street to Trolley Line Trail ~ .36 mile
  • Trolley Line Trail: Happy Hollow Park playground to restroom area ~ .09 mile
