ORDINANCE NO. 11-97
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND WEST LAFAYETTE CITY CODE CHAPTER 26 CONCERNING
FEES (Prepared by the City Attorney)
WHEREAS, the West Lafayette Police Department has reviewed the fees
currently set for various services; and
WHEREAS, the West Lafayette Police Department has found that fees need
to be revised.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WEST LAFAYETTE that:
Section 1. West Lafayette City Code section 26.01 is amended to read as
follows:
Sec. 26.01. Police department documents-Copy fees.
(a) The purpose of this section is to comply with Indiana Code §
9-29-11-1 which stipulates that a fee of three dollars may be charged for
a copy of an accident report but provision for collection must be
established by local ordinance.
(b) In accordance with §§ 41.03, 41.05 and 41.06, the police
department maintains various public files and records from which copies
are requested by the public.
(c) This section is enacted to establish the rate of reimbursement for
all copies made by the police department as follows:
Accident Crash reports SI#23588 $1.50

Section 2. West Lafayette City Code section 26.02 is amended to read as
follows:
Sec. 26.02. Public record-copy fee.
(a) There shall be no fee for the first five pages of copied record.
Thereafter the fee shall be twenty-five cents for each successive page.
"Public record" means any writing, paper, report, study, map,
photograph, book, card, tape recording, or other material that is created,
received, retained, maintained, used or filed by or with a public agency
and which is generated on paper, paper substitutes, photographic media,
chemically based media, magnetic or machine readable media, or any other
material, regardless of form or characteristics.
(b) The fee for providing city records on 3 ½" disk is $2.00
per disk.
(b) (c) This section shall be separate and
apart from § 26.01 which establishes fees for copies of accident reports
and other miscellaneous documents obtained from the police department of

Section 3. West Lafayette City Code section 26.03 is amended to read as
follows:
Sec. 26.03. Municipal lien statement fee.
A fee of two dollars $5 shall be charged by the
city of West Lafayette to recover the cost of processing and issuing
municipal lien statements. (Ord. No. 6-84.)
Section 4. West Lafayette City Code section 26.04 is amended as
follows:
Sec. 26.04. Birth and death certificate fee schedule.
(a) Fee Charged. The fee charged by the city for search of
vital records and to provide a copy of the birth or death certificate (if
found) shall be established as five dollars.
(b) Additional Copy. The fee charged for additional copies of
the birth or death certificate ordered at the same time as the search
shall be four dollars each. (Ord. No. 21-80, §§ 1, 2; Ord. No. 14-89,
§§ 1, 2.)
Sec. 26.04. Facsimile transmission of reinstatement notices to
Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
(a) Fee Charged. The fee charged for facsimile transmission of
reinstatement notices (SR-16, Certification of Indiana Abstract of Court
Record) to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles shall be established at $5.00.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage and signing by the Mayor.
