WHEREAS, Tippecanoe County and the City of West Lafayette are both members of the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the County of Tippecanoe and the Common Council of the City of West Lafayette each have legislative authority over zoning matters within the boundaries of their own jurisdictions; and

WHEREAS, a plan for orderly growth within a context of available and expanding infrastructure and sound environmental practices is essential to carrying out those duties regarding zoning matters; and

WHEREAS, growth and development continues to occur in unincorporated portions of Wabash Township adjacent to the City of West Lafayette; and

WHEREAS, the adopted Land Use element of the Comprehensive Plan for Tippecanoe County was adopted in 1981 at a time when sanitary sewer service and environmental protection measures were not yet considered, and were largely unavailable to this area;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT JOINTLY RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of the County of Tippecanoe and the Common Council of the City of West Lafayette hereby request that the Area Plan Commission of Tippecanoe County authorize its staff to study land use and infrastructure issues in the following areas of joint interest:

That the study should include the participation of elected and appointed officials and local planning groups in Wabash Township as well as technical and general public input; that the study be presented to the Area Plan Commission as a land use plan; and that the land use plan be in the form of an amendment to the adopted Comprehensive Plan if its findings differ significantly from the current plan; that following adoption of an amended Land Use plan element, zoning be reviewed for conformity to the Plan and recommendations made to amend the Official Zoning Map of Wabash Township where appropriate.

This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and signing by the Mayor.
